HISTORY OF THE JULY BIRTHSTONE
Being one of the most historically significant colored stones and mentioned four times in the Bible, the history of the mining of rubies dates back more than 2,500 years ago. Ranging of various red hues, the most radiant rubies can be found in India, Australis, Burma, Pakistan, Kenya, and the United States. The ruby contains chromium, giving it its red color and causing fluorescence allowing it to glow. The most valuable ruby of them all is the Burmese Ruby which its color is often referred to as “pigeon blood” red, as it is associated with the white of a pigeon’s eye and the Mogok Valley mines in Myanmar.
