THE HISTORY BEHIND THE AQUAMARINE
The seawater color of the aquamarine is how this gemstone got its name, as it is derived from the Latin word for seawater. It is a valued gem of ancient lineage. In the 19th century, sea green varieties of the stone were the most popular, but today, the bluer the color the more valuable the stone. This gemstone is mined in Brazil; however, it can also be found in Pakistan, Nigeria, Zambia, and Madagascar. In 1910, the largest aquamarine was found in Brazil, weighing 243 pounds! It grows in expansive crystals making it a magnificent gemstone for cutting and polishing bigger carats for bold statement pieces.
